March 19, 2020
In response to the Governor’s announcement of a stay-at-home order for the state of Illinois from March 21st thru April 7th, the district is reaching out to explain what this means for Westville School District. Currently the district is focusing attention on three major main areas: food distribution, continuity of learning, and clear communication.
Food Distribution
For the mandated closure that impacted school this week, the district partnered with the Back-Pack Program that serves over 10% of our students. This program was in place before the mandated closure and the district helped supply resources to this program during the mandated closure date and through spring break.
With the announcement of the stay-at-home order until April 7th the district has a system in place for ANY student who may need of assistance during this period of time.
Students who need assistance with food next week may sign up to receive support by filling out the link below
Request for Food Assistance - Fill Out One for Each Student as Needed
This link will remain open until Sunday March 23 at 1:00PM. At that time the district will determine the availability of food resources and best distribution options. The families in need of assistance will be contacted directly to receive support. There will be additional opportunities to sign up for assistance in the coming weeks.
Continuity of Learning
District teachers have worked hard to provide opportunities for students and families to remain engaged in learning during the four days of school that were suspended this week.
With the announcement of the stay-at-home order until April 7th, this district is working on a platform to support the continuity of learning for all students in response to this extended time.
The district will carry out a plan to make sure all students have opportunities in place for the continuity of learning. More information will be shared before the conclusion of the normal district spring break.
Clear Communication
All district communication will continue to occur though our synchronized district communication tool via text, email, district website, and our district school Facebook page. Updates will be shared as the district is made aware of information.
Conclusion
The district is committed to acting quickly and effectively to do everything possible to make sure our students and community remain safe and healthy. The school board and administrative team will continue to collaborate closely with our neighboring school districts as well as regional, state, and national agencies. The safety and well-being of our residents is our highest priority as we continue to support our community.
Thank You for Supporting Our Schools,
