Dear Westville School Community,
Today we received notice from Governor Pritzker that Illinois schools will be closed for face-to-face instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While we have been preparing, as a district, for this possibility; it did not make today’s announcement any easier to hear.
Please know that our teachers and staff share your feelings concerning this news. Our district is at its best when we are educating our students in our schools. Our community is at its best when we are providing our students with an outstanding educational experience – be it in the classroom, the performance stage, the playing field, the gymnasium or the many, many places where learning takes place.
This news is disappointing for all of our students, but it is especially difficult for our high school seniors. Please know that our thoughts are with every member of the Westville High School Class of 2020. We will provide you with updated information regarding commencement, prom, and other end of the year activities in the coming week. Ultimately we will find a unique way to celebrate your accomplishments in a way that is safe and significant.
For the rest of this school year, we will continue providing remote learning activities and food distribution procedures that are currently in place. We will provide meaningful instruction outlined in our Remote Learning Plan. We will continue to teach and our students will continue to learn.
Even as this notice is difficult to write, it is our commitment at Westville School District to provide everything in our power to support our students and families during this difficult time.
Westville is a community of hard-working, resilient, and hopeful people. Together we will get through these tough times by relying on each other to endure and overcome the challenges before us.
Stay safe and stay committed to optimism,
Seth Miller, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Westville School District #2
