Dear Westville School Community Members,
Wednesday August 4, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced masks will be required for students, teachers and staff at PK-12th grade schools. The new measure is part of the state’s ongoing effort to combat a new surge as the Delta variant rapidly spreads.
The mask requirement is inclusive of youth sports and activities, with masks now required for all indoor extra-curriculars and sports. In line with CDC guidance, masks are not required for activities outdoors where transmission risks and rates are lower.
This recent announcement differs from the mask recommendation which was in place prior. However, Westville School District will follow the new guidance provided and will continue to work hard for our students and community; just as we did the last school year when mask requirements were in place. Our focus will remain on keeping our kids in school for in-person learning, continuing to push for a return to normal operations to extent possible, and choosing to remain enthusiastic and determined even when there is temptation to feel otherwise.
Thank you for your support of our students. We look forward to seeing you at registration next week. It is our firm belief that no matter the challenges, this will be a great new school year because of the people we serve and the importance of the work to which we are committed.
Sincerely,
Seth Miller, Ph.D.
Superintendent
Westville School District
