The Westville Baseball Team was at it again after an eight day lay-off as they hosted the Rantoul Eagles. Ben Johnson knocked a deep fly ball in the bottom of the 6 while teammate Matt Darling was tagging up and this play would give Westville a 5 to 4 lead. Then it was Easton Barney to close the game for the Tigers where some great defense led him to 2 innings pitched and he threw 16 out of 23 strikes (70%) and got the win. Easton Barney earned the Defensive Player of the Game. The Offensive Player of the Game was earned by Gavin Long as he went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and played some excellent 1st base on Defense. super dudes
The Tigers won their 20th game this evening and 9th in a row vs Champaign Centennial and the final score was 8-7. Junior Braxton Barrett pitched 5 2/3 innings and struck out 7 while giving up 0 earned runs. He was the winning pitcher tonight and was named the Defensive Player of the Game. Westville's junior catcher Ben Johnson was seeing the ball really well as he accumulated 3 singles that helped him drive in 3 runs plus he scored 1. Offensive production like this, earns Ben Johnson the Offensive Player of the Game. More than once, the bases were loaded and just when things were starting to go downhill, our defense and pitching really stepped it up. Great job team for never giving up no matter what the odds were.

Today, we celebrated the senior baseball players and their parents: Easton Barney, Ean Jones, Bryson Stanis, Matthew Darling, and Jace Smith were the 5 that were honored. The final score was Westville 6 and Cissna Park 3. Easton Barney went the distance, as he pitched 7 strong innings, had 6 Ks, and only gave up 1 earned Run. But he was not done there, Easton also had a great offensive night as he was 3 for 3 with a single, double, and triple and also had 2 RBIs and 2 Runs Scored. Bryson Stanis and Ean Jones both had sacrifice bunts which moves the runner into scoring position which led to Barney knocking the 2 Runs in with a triple. Great job you too. Matthew Darling went 1 for 3 with a single and a Walk. Jace Smith gave the fans reasons to cheer as he had a hit a frozen rope for a single that gave him an RBI and a total of 2 Runs Scored and 1 HBP. Coach Brazas says to you five athletes, "gentleman, it had been a privilege to coach you for the past 4 years and you will be missed." "The legacy that you leave behind will help future players and the brotherhood that you have built was last forever."

This is what every baseball player dreams of... the bases were loaded with 2 outs and 2 strikes and the Tigers #3 hitter Ben Johnson was at the plate. Here comes the pitch and the ball gets away from the catcher and Kip Appl (who was on 3rd base because of a lead off double and a walk that moved him over to 3rd) scored the winning run as he beat the ball home. The crowd and team shouted with joy because Westville won the game 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th. A well played game by Westville and they did it vs a very good team. Gavin Long also added a solo shot to right field that left the ball field for a HR. Gavin Long and Kip Appl were the Offensive Player of the Game. Matt Darling was ready to pitch as he struck out 6 and gave up only 1 run in 5 inning. This effort earned Matt the Defensive Player of the Game. The Tigers have won 7 in a row and play their final home conference game vs Cissna Park on Monday (5/11) at 4:30pm.

The pitcher on the hill today was Junior Ben Johnson and he was locked in from the 1st batter of the game until the last hitter. This complete game gem included 7 innings pitched, 1 run, 6 strikeouts, and only 3 hits given up. This effort earns Ben the Defensive Player of the Game. Offensively, our #2 hole hitter went 3 for 4 with a single, double, and a triple while scoring 2 Runs. He barreled up 3 and because of this, Matt was named the Offensively Player of the Game. Westville did it again by a score of 7-4 vs GCMS. Kip Appl pitched 5 innings and got the win escaping trouble when GCMS was rallying. Kip also struck out 4 and this effort earned him the Defensive Player of the Game. After the game, Kip had prom plans so no picture was taken of him for his Defensive Player of the Game so Easton Barney pretended. (See attached picture) Easton Barney had the hot bat going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 2 Run Scored. Barn also played super defense at Shortstop making 8 putouts. This effort earns Easton the Offensive Player of the Game.

The Tigers showed patience as the first game of the round robin went 13 innings and the final score had Westville 5 and Casey 3. Braxton Barrett was the Defensive Player of the Game as he impressively pitched 7 strong innings in relief and threw only 88 pitches. He gave up 1 unearned run and this effort earned him the Defensive player of the Game. It was all tied up at 3 in the top of the 13th inning and Ben Johnson stepped to the plate with teammate Matt Darling on 2nd base and he hit the go ahead run with a single to left field. This put Westville ahead for good where Matt Darling shut the opposing team down in the bottom of the 13th inning. It was a Marathon win for the Tigers and many stories will be talked about for years to come about this game. Ben Johnson's effort earned him the Offensive Player of the Game. Great job Team.

The Tigers beat a solid Salt Fork team 8-0 as starting pitcher Ben Johnson and reliever Braxton Barrett combined for a 1 hit shutout. Ben had a 4 strikeout performance and this effort earned him the Defensive Player of the Game. The defense behind these 2 pitchers made it much easier to focus on getting a pitch to contact approach. One extremely nice plays was made by Centerfielder Alec Davis as a weak pop fly to shallow center and Alec came flying in and dove and caught the ball and held it up for the base umpire to see. It was Amazing. Alec was also the only Tiger to have 2 hits with an RBI and 1 Run Scored. This effort earned him the Offense Player of the Game. Ben Johnson also hit a double clearing the bases and giving the Tigers an even bigger lead. Great job team

Milford and Westville intensely battled for 9 innings and the Tigers were victorious on a walk-off single by Christian Giles scoring Matt Darling. This team would never give up going down 5-0 early. Matthew Darling will never forget this game going 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs including a 2-Run HR. Matt also took the pitching duties in relief for the 8th and 9th innings and he shut the door on Milford picking up the win. The effort earned him the Defense Player of the Game. The Tigers have done it again!!! It was a beautiful day for baseball and Westville defeated South Vermillion 12-2 in just 5 innings. The Tigers bats are red hot as they had 11 hits and 2 of those were home runs. Matt Darling and Alec Davis were the 2 with the HRs and they now have 7 Home Runs combined for the season. Another Tiger that needs to be noticed is Gavin Long. Gavin was 2 for 3 with a walk and sacrifice and also had 3 RBIs and the game winning walk-Off hit. This effort earned Gavin the Offensive Player of the Game. The 2 Westville pitchers held South Vermillion to just 2 runs, 5 Ks, and 1 hit. Nice job Gavin and Jace. The web gem of the night went to Easton Barney playing at the shortstop position. A hard hit ball was up the middle and what seemed to be a base hit was snagged by Easton after a dive, hopped up off the turf and threw a shot to the stretched 1st baseman (Gavin Long) for the out. The play had our fans mesmerized and it won Easton the Defensive Player of the Game. Westville is now 11-10 overall and 3-2 in the VVC. The Tigers travel to Potomac. and play a very tough Armstrong team

The Westville Tigers are in the winners column once again and they did the job in a convincing fashion. The Tigers defeated the Tri-County Titans 14-0 in just 5 innings. Westville ended the day with 12 hits including 6 for extra bases. Braxton Barrett, Ben Johnson, Matthew Darling, and Kip Appl were the 4 pitchers on the bump and combined for a shutout. Great job fellas. The Defensive Player of the Game was Catcher, Owen Atwood and his 2 stellar plays as he back-picked 2 Tri-County players while the base runners attempted to get a bigger lead off 2nd base and Owen said, "No You Don't. "This effort earned Mr Atwood the Defensive Player of the Game. The Offensive Player of the Game was a no-doubter as this young man went 3 for 3 with a single, a triple, and a Home Run. Alec Davis had 2 RBIs and 3 Runs Scored and this effort earned Alec the Offensive Player of the Game. The Tigers are now 10-10 and 3-2 in the VVC. Tomorrow, Westville hosts South Vermillion at 4:30 pm.

For the second day in a row, Braden Brown was the offensive player of the game going 3 for 3 with 4 RBI and a double. The defensive side shined for the Tigers tonight, as the defense made zero errors and defensive players of the game Brayden Liles (3 IP, 4 Ks) and Peyton Pollock (1 IP, 1 K) combined for a NO HITTER! The JV Tigers keep rolling!
